Save Stream Flowing from Donaldson Cave at Spring Mill State Park

    Spring Mill State Park

Spring Mill State Park is located in southern Indiana near the town of Mitchell. Open year-round, this beautiful and hilly Indiana State Park is a place you must visit. Uniquely, it has a Pioneer Village with a grist mill dating back to 1817 and several log cabins and houses with various uses and interpreters. The village is active May through mid-October. Another unique aspect of the park is several caves, including one that offers seasonal boat tours into the cave. There are seven hiking trails, all relatively short with the longest being 2.5 miles. We really enjoyed hiking trails 3 and 4. The park also has a beginner mountain biking trail (2 miles), lake fishing, a public swimming pool, and a nature center.

Dogs are allowed in the park with the exception of the Pioneer Village and the Spring Mill Inn. They must be kept on a leash at all times on trails and in the campground though.

    Lodging

The rustic, yet charming, Spring Mill Inn has a restaurant and an indoor/outdoor pool. I remember my parents taking us to stay at the inn as young kids and thinking the partition between the indoor and outdoor pool that you could swim under was the coolest thing. Even if you aren’t staying here, consider taking a break from hiking to relax on the large back porch or warm up by the fire in the lobby.

The campground has 187 electric campsites, 36 primitive campsites, and a youth tent area. There are 4 bathhouses with flushing toilets and hot showers. Water hookup is pretty close at most campsites. There are two nice playgrounds. Because the park is pretty hilly, a lot of the campsites are sloped. Be sure to read each campsite description carefully on reserveamerica.gov, where reservations can be made. You can see our favorite campsites highlighted on this campground map.
